White Cube is pleased return to MAZE Art Gstaad in the Swiss Alps, presenting works by a selection of international artists including Etel Adnan, Darren Almond, Georg Baselitz, Lynne Drexler, Tracey Emin, Salvatore Emblema, Theaster Gates, Marguerite Humeau, Imi Knoebel, Salvatore Mangione, Yoko Matsumoto, A.R Penck, Francis Picabia, Jessica Rankin, Park Seo-Bo, Takis and Danh Vo.
Highlights from the booth include Theaster Gates’ mixed media painting Flag Study for Roof and Wall #005 (2022). Concurrently with the fair, the artist’s sculptures The Duet, Bronze Vessel 1 (Strike) and Bronze Vessel 2 (Double Mooring) (2023) are on public view at Saanen Rübeldorf, Gstaad, as part of the group exhibition ‘Elevation 1049: ENGERGIES’, a collaboration between LUMA Foundation and guest curator Stefanie Hessler, Director of Swiss Institute New York. In addition, Gates’ major exhibition ‘1965: Malcolm in Winter: A Translation Exercise’ opened on 7 February at White Cube Bermondsey in London.
Further notable works include Edom Becomes Wilderness (1989), a pink oil on canvas by Japanese artist Yoko Matsumoto who recently joined the gallery; Darren Almond’s painting with gold leaf Senryū (Autumn) (2024), and Danh Vo’s Untitled (2024), a sculpture combining a 17th-century wooden putto with a vintage Johnny Walker crate.
Also on display is Ecriture No. 221005 (2022), one of Park Seo-Bo’s renowned ‘Newspaper Ecriture’ works made shortly before his passing in 2023; a signature Signal (1975) sculpture by the late-Greek artist Takis; Francis Picabia’s Untitled (three heads) (c1932), a charcoal, ink and pencil work on paper; and Tracey Emin’s painting You tore me Apart From inside (2020).
